WHAT INSPIRES ME????
This is an interesting question to answer. I was asked a couple of weeks ago by my sideline, Valentina, to participate in a blog hop asking what inspires me creatively. There are so many different things that inspire me throughout the day that it’s a little difficult to give a cookie cutter answer. But here it goes…
1. WHAT AM I WORKING ON?
Currently I am working on projects for my customers to make at this week’s iStampin’ Thursday monthly class. I had a request for us to make projects where we heat emboss. I absolutely love this technique because it’s not too difficult but so fun to do. Here is just a sample of one of our projects.
2. HOW DOES MY WORK DIFFER FROM OTHERS IN THIS GENRE?
I’m influenced by so many factors that it’s hard to actually say I’m different from others. I’ll see a technique that I want to try and I’ll put my “spin” on it to make it different. For instance, last week I wrote a blog post and made a video creating the card below. I had seen this technique on a few different YouTube channels and I was inspired to give it a try and make it more of my own.
If I look back at when I started scrapbooking and progressed to making cards I’d say my style has changed to a more clean, simple, classic style, which is my tagline for this blog. I see other card makers who make beautiful, shabby chic cards or even trendy cards and I love to look at them. When I try to create that style it just doesn’t translate. It wasn’t until I started looking back at all the scrapbook pages and cards I’ve made over the years to see how my style has evolved. It will interesting to look back five or even 10 years from now to see how my work is different compared to now.
3. WHY DO I CREATE WHAT I DO?
I’ve been crafting of some sort since I was a little girl. I always loved to color in my coloring books and I remember spending so much time making sure I didn’t color out of the lines. When I was a teen I made scrapbooks of my middle and high school days. I’m so happy I spent the time to do this. It’s fun to look at them with my daughter who’s turning 13 later this month and to recount what I did at her age. I craft because it makes me happy. I craft because it allows me to have a home based business which makes feel satisfied, which in turn, makes my family happy. Hahaha!! 🙂
4. HOW DOES MY CREATIVE PROCESS WORK & HOW DO I GET & STAY INSPIRED?
In a short answer, Pinterest and YouTube! Pinterest is an amazing website. I have many boards that I pin ideas to which allows me to refer back to when I am needing some inspiration. YouTube is great for learning new techniques like I wrote about in question #2. I have a blogging schedule weekly and referring to Pinterest or watching YouTube videos is great if I’m stuck in a rut.
Enough about me…
I have asked three talented ladies to participate in this blog hop so I hope you take the opportunity to check out their blogs.
1. Lisa Bennett: If you are a fan of card challenges, you need to be sure to check out Lisa’s blog.
2. Wanda Rohlfing: Wanda is new to blogging and already has some great posts featuring beautiful cards.
3. April Vicary: April has wonderful ideas for Halloween cards up on her most recent blog posts.
I hope you found this post informative and thanks again to Valentina for tagging me.
